Chipper Jones is full of praise for the team he spent his entire career tormenting.
For years, Chipper Jones was the Mets’ biggest tormentor. Now he says the Mets’ starting pitching is so good “they’re my early-season pick to probably go all the way.”
Jones, the former Brave and future Hall of Famer, praised the defending National League champion Mets during a Tuesday appearance on SiriusXM's MLB Network Radio channel. It started when he was asked if solidifying the rotation is the best way to recharge a club like Atlanta.
“That’s where I would start,” said Jones, now a special assistant with his old team. “I think the blueprint is kind of what the New York Mets are doing right now. Obviously, it’s hard to come up with three or four guns like the Mets have, whether it’s (Matt) Harvey, (Jacob) deGrom, (Zack) Wheeler coming back, (Noah) Syndergaard, the lefty Matz.
“They’ve got a whole entire rotation that lives at 94-95 (mph) and has an idea of what they’re doing with their breaking stuff.
“They’re really setting the bar and they’re my early-season pick to probably go all the way.”
